The Borders Story
Borders filed bankruptcy in February 2011. Why? They did not know how to manage their brand. They recognized that they were losing money. They made the erroneous assumption that if they would sell a wide array of products other than books online that would save their company. They should have figured out how to differentiate their brand in order to motivate customers to walk into their stores, and buy books. Instead, they destroyed their brand.
